The Wools- Heard It All Before

The Wools are the newest band to come out of the iconic Merseyside indie scene.

Wool‘ is the name given, by scousers, to people who aren’t from Liverpool but tell people they are. Frontman George and bassist AJ moved to the city from the midlands while Sam came from West Yorkshire. The band’s Liverpudlian drummer Dan was apparently, and understandably, unsure of the name when his bandmates thought it up.

The Merseyside outfit came together (Beatles pun intentional) over a mutual love of 60s girl groups like The Ronettes and The Shirelles as well as Canadian slack-popper Mac DeMarco and local legend George Harrison.

Heard It All Before‘- their first single – was released on Saturday 11th March.

The track has a hazy dream-pop feel to it and could easily have take samples from a Mac DeMarco record. However, George’s vocals bring an indie edge and don’t sound too dissimilar to those of Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden.

The Wools‘ first effort is a solid one and I’ll forward to hearing what’s next for their brand of Scouse slacker surf-pop.
