On Thursday night (19th), LA garage punks FIDLAR took their European tour to Manchester’s O2 Ritz. The Whitworth Street venue was heaving and the support band, Runcorn-based psychedelic grunge trio Spilt, got the blood pumping with an animated set that roused fully-fledged mosh pits just a couple of minutes in.
Headliners FIDLAR opened with recent single ‘Alcohol‘. The crowd were certainly familiar with this one, screaming along to the chorus with frontman Zac Carper: “Do you wanna stay inside or do you wanna go get some alcohol?!”
The West Coast band’s set was mainly a mix of tracks from their 2013 self-titled debut and second album from 2015 titled ‘Too‘. A couple of new songs were thrown in for good measure, which will likely make an appearance on their third LP which was recently announced but with no date for release as of yet.
An encore of three songs from the band’s first album: ‘Blackout Stout‘, ‘Wake Bake Skate‘ and ‘Cocaine‘ was a perfect way to end a crazy night of crazy night of hard-hitting punk rock tunes with scream-along hooks, and sweaty mosh pits.
Whether FIDLAR‘s simple as they come garage riffs and songs written about drugs, alcohol and a destructive lack of ambition and self-esteem hold enough substance for your taste or not, they are a fantastic live band. If rock bands who give every performance everything they’ve got and make the crowd do exactly the same are your thing, then you should definitely catch FIDLAR on tour.
